Day 2

(FYI, I had this mostly ready on Wednesday but finished it early Thursday morning and posted. I will still be posting a Day 3 on Thursday.)

So I have had a little bit of a crazy day...

We woke up a little late. Really, we chose to sleep in a tiny bit and enjoy the extra 15 minutes of no noisy kids. When we finally got up, it was like going from 0 to 60 in no time. Getting everything ready included three kiddos getting dressed, hair done, shoes on, jackets on (because it is FINALLY cold in Texas!), gathering the order I had to finish and ship out today, and making sure Ryan had his snack packed. Then we headed off for dropping everyone off at their destinations, and Ryan and I heading to the doctor's office.

You see, I have known Ryan was different from other kids since he was about 1 year old. I can actually remember his 12 month well child checkup and having a conversation with his pediatrician. I told her that I felt like I was crazy but that I had a feeling he was ADHD. I personally was diagnosed with ADD (now known as a different form of ADHD) in the sixth grade and it ran strongly through my family as well as Ryan's biological father's. I knew the symptoms and the behaviors to watch for, and I was already certain. I have remained open-minded about it and did not want to push a diagnosis. The plan was to wait until he was school-aged and then have him evaluated for it, then treat as prescribed.

Well, Ryan is now in Kindergarten and has been struggling, especially lately. His behavior has become predictably difficult, and he is always seeming to be in trouble at school for the same things: bossing other students, refusing to remain at his desk, disobeying his teacher, interrupting the teacher, etc. He has even been getting into arguments and fights with his classmates. Needless to say, his teacher, his principal, and both myself and his step-dad are at a loss for what else we can do that we have not tried. So I had him evaluated about a month ago for ADHD. Well, today was his followup to discuss the results and get the letter prepared to request a prescription from his pediatrician.

Ryan has been diagnosed with ADHD, mood disorder (not otherwise specified), and ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder). We have a doctor appointment with his pediatrician on Friday to go over medicinal options and come up with a plan that would best work to help relieve some symptoms of the ADHD. He has also been recommended to start behavior modification therapy with his doctor in Taylor (with both myself and my husband there to learn new techniques). Hopefully some of these things will start to help.

Today was a good day overall. After the appointment, I took Ryan back to school and then went to work finally. I worked on payroll and entering the new bills, as well as other small miscellaneous tasks. I got to leave a tad bit early to get my husband from work (to those of you who do not know us, we only have one vehicle, so carpooling is an everyday thing) so we could make a few extra stops before picking up the kids. I got the grocery list prepared and just kept thinking, "how much easier is this going to be when I finally have my Family Management Binder put together with all of my printables so I can have the meal planner and grocery list ready to go!" I am working on this currently and should have it all done by tomorrow evening. I will take some pictures and get everything set up so I can show y'all what I will be using and. Some of the printables are my own handiwork and others I am using from free downloads I found online, which I will provide links to in case you would like some of your own. I also am planning to make a fabric cover for the binder so it will look prettier, but we shall see. I want extra organization built in and I just have not been able to find what I need anywhere pre-made. :( I guess it is a good thing God made me handy with a sewing machine :)

Well, I think that is all for today folks! I will be on here again tomorrow, so keep a watch out.

Thanks!

~Jen
